A NEW YEAR, A NEW YOU
January 1st is typically the day to make promises to ourselves. Whether it is eating healthier, or reading more, or becoming a better person by changing your behavior, the COA and its programs can help. The Council On Aging has an array of enrichment, wellness and fitness opportunities designed for older adults. Research indicates that those who age well are those who are active, stimulated and engaged with others socially age better than those who are not. It is never too late to join COA programs! For information on activities offered at the COA, call us at 508-261-7368. return to menu

MISSED OPEN ENROLLMENT?
If you missed the opportunity to make changes to your health insurance coverages, you may still be able to do so, under certain circumstances. From January 1st through February 14th, if you have a Medicare Advantage Plan, you are allowed to switch to Original Medicare (Medigap and/or a Drug Plan). Those who are enrolled in Prescription Advantage are able to change plans one time per year, and those who receive “Extra Help” for prescription drugs or those who are enrolled in MassHealth are able to change monthly, if desired. Did you know if your new drug plan does not cover a medication, you are entitled to a one month free refill? A transition supply is allowed to give you time to remedy this oversight—by switching drug plans during this time period or having your physician write a new prescription for a covered drug. Confused? Call and speak with COA SHINE counselors Beverly or Lynette at 508-261-7368. return to menu
